I have met many of the young women in the program and have been very impressed with them and the program curriculum.”

My background is in Financial Management assistance for companies in the food service industries.  I am a past CFO and provide CFO level support on a consulting basis. I have been involved with Y-WE since 2012 when I provided coaching to the organization in the Social Venture Partners awards competition known as SIFP.  I worked directly with the Director Jamie Rose Edwards and her team for about 5 months through quarter, semi and finals of the competition.

I support the organization because I have met many of the young women in the program and have been very impressed with them and the program curriculum. Many of the young women come from other international cultures and Y-WE provides skills and mentorship to help them succeed.   I encourage others to support Y-WE because it’s an excellent program and the young women who participate are very motivated and enthusiastic about being a part of it and many could not otherwise afford the leadership training they receive.

I encourage others to support Y-WE because their programs create opportunities for young women to find their voice and speak their truth.”

My background is in the ARTS; Theatre arts, Healing arts, Dance & Martial arts. I am part of the Education team at Seattle Repertory Theatre and have been fortunate to work with some of the best teaching artists over the last 16 years in developing our Speak program. The Rep’s Speak residencies use theatre as a means of tackling broader issues: such as race, gender identity and social pressures. Last year we piloted a partnership with Y-WE in the creation of Y-WE Speak. We continue our partnership with Y-WE this year to create an original theatre piece using the Seattle Rep’s Speak process in celebration of International Women’s Day.

I am involved with Y-WE as a teaching artist for Seattle Rep. I support the organization because I know first hand the impact diversity of thought, beliefs and lifestyles can have on a teenage mind, and Y-WE is committed to diversity. In fact one of the stated goals is – we learn from difference. I grew up with a mom who asked me often ”what are you thinking?” who listened to my wild imaginings and naïve questions of the world and responded with honesty, patience and without judgment. Being surrounded by diversity, feeling free to engage in dialogue about my world as well as cultures, customs, and ideas unknown to me helped me greatly prepare to live and thrive far from home in communities very different to what I was born into. I see this same thing happening in the Y-WE programs for the young women they serve.

I encourage others to support Y-WE because their programs create opportunities of young women to find their voice and speak their truth. Y-WE Speak and Lead offer participants time and space to be connected to women of all ages, from a wide range of backgrounds and who are invested in sharing experience, exchanging ideas and learning from each other. Honestly the best way to experience the impact of Young Women Empowered is to join us on Saturday, March 8 at Seattle Rep when we celebrate International Women’s Day with the performance of the original theatre piece created and performed by the girls and women of Y-WE Speak.

“I support the organization because I believe Y-WE is creating future leaders who will have the courage to carve their own path and the skills to improve our world.”

My background is in helping to advance nonprofits through marketing, communications and digital media. I use video, graphics, the web and writing to share stories and raise awareness for good causes. I am involved with Y-WE because I love their mission and the people. I volunteered my time to design Y-WE’s website, logo, and graphics. I support the organization because I believe Y-WE is creating future leaders who will have the courage to carve their own path and the skills improve our world. I encourage others to support Y-WE because it feels incredible to support an organization that is changing the lives of so many young women right here in the Northwest.

“Y-WE runs such a dynamic program to support the growth and leadership potential of young women from all backgrounds.”

I am the retail leader of the Green Eileen store in Columbia City.  Green Eileen is a social enterprise created to engage customers in responsible retail.  I have been with the Eileen Fisher stores since 1999 when I started at the downtown Seattle store. I have been involved with Y-WE since I worked in the downtown Eileen Fisher store and we recognized this program with an in-store fundraiser.  I have since attended events and planning sessions.

I support the organization because I have a 13 year old daughter.  I believe it is so important to raise young women to be confident with themselves and involved in their communities. Y-WE runs such a dynamic program to support the growth and leadership potential of young women from all backgrounds.  I have been so impressed with the dedication and commitment of those involved with the organization.  They are truly inspiring! I encourage others to support Y-WE because when we give girls the opportunity to develop their strongest selves, they step into the world knowing they have the power to shape their lives and their communities.  Y-WE supports learning and confidence. Y-WE connects with girls in a unique way that I believe creates opportunities for their futures they may not otherwise have the chance to realize.

“I am thrilled with the positive changes that I have seen within my own daughter through her involvement in Y-WE.”

I am the Founder and former Executive Director of Red Feather Development Group.  I am the father of a Y-WE participant and an active donor. I support Y-WE because I feel that the best investment that we can make in this world is to support and empower young women. I encourage others to support Y-WE because I strongly believe in their mission.  We all benefit enormously by having empowered, intelligent young women playing an active role in society, and I am thrilled with the positive changes that I have seen within my own daughter through her involvement in Y-WE.

“As an immigrant father of a newborn daughter, the opportunities Y-WE offers to young women will create a generation of women leaders who will serve as a role model for her in years to come.”

My background is in Corporate Law at O’Melveny and Myers. I am involved with Y-WE as a volunteer attorney providing pro-bono legal counsel on non-profit policies and procedures, and IRS filings. I support the organization because I value its mission to empower young women into leadership roles in their community and industry, and – as a Jewish immigrant from Uzbekistan growing up in Queens, NY – I understand the importance of learning from diversity. I encourage others to support Y-WE because the programs that invest in the success of young women and embrace their diversity benefit society as a whole. As an immigrant father of a newborn daughter, the opportunities Y-WE offers to young women will create a generation of women leaders who will serve as a role model for her in years to come.

Helping the flame of any one young woman to grow bright has a ripple effect of lighting a beacon for others.”

We encourage others to support Y-We because this is an exciting time for women, and to empower women is to empower everyone as well.

“In listening to the girls’ beautifully interwoven stories, I saw that Y-WE Speak had succeeded in using storytelling to engage these girls as few classrooms ever could.”

I’m a film director who lives in Los Angeles, but visits family frequently in Seattle. I became involved with Y-WE when I attended a show created by your girls and mentors. Because I live outside of Seattle, the way I can best participate in the great work Y-We is doing is by offering financial support.

I support the organization because I was so moved by what I saw and heard in that one Y-WE Speak show — young women who were alive and empowered. Who were brave enough to share themselves with us. Who exhibited dedication and self-esteem. In listening to their beautifully interwoven stories I saw that Y-WE had succeeded in using storytelling to engage these girls as few classrooms ever could. As a co-parent of an 18-year-old young woman I appreciate the importance of this and want more girls to experience it. I encourage others to support Y-WE because it is a fantastic way to give girls and young women key skills that will help them thrive academically, emotionally and socially.

“My daughter’s self-esteem and confidence has sky-rocketed far beyond our dreams or expectations!”

My job is in Pharmaceutical Sales. I am a wife, and mother to two teenagers. In today’s world where young women are idealized in pages of magazines and where inappropriate behavior makes you famous, I find it refreshing that there is an organization focusing on supporting young women to be the best at who they truly are as people. Supporting women/girls of diverse backgrounds and life experiences; providing them growth opportunities and self-esteem boosting exercises with an anticipation that they will rise above the challenges that they face in society.

I support the organization because my daughter has been a participant for the past three years.  During this time she has forged new friendships and learned to love and accept herself for the amazing individual she is.  Additionally, I can say her self-esteem and confidence has sky-rocketed far beyond our dreams or expectations!  We are so very proud of the young woman she has become through her association with Y-WE.  I cannot thank Jamie-Rose enough for providing such a positive, supportive, and unique experience for the girls.

I encourage others to support Y-WE-because we need positive, diverse, female leadership…this program is exceptional–it encourages celebrating distinctive character, uniqueness, independence, and individual thinking and applying it to school, work, and life. Y-WE is meeting the needs of young women today.

My job/background is in Youth Development, Cultural Arts and Non-Profit Management. I am involved with Y-WE as a school based partner at Denny International Middle School and as a supporter. I support the organization because Y-WE creates powerful intergenerational learning, leadership and relationships among diverse women with strength, compassion and a high quality youth development model. I encourage others to support Y-WE because more than ever young people and young women need positive, consistent communities and in their lives. Y-WE provides a space where young women and their mentors shape a positive identity, discover the power of having a role in community, and start on a path of leadership.
