THANK YOU for your interest in mentoring!
When you get involved with Y-WE, you join a high-spirited, intergenerational and multicultural community of women ages 13 and up who are dedicated to building a positive future for our communities and the world.
Do you believe that young women have a major role to play in determining the future of our communities and the world? Y-WE Lead gives you the chance to join our community as a mentor of young women ages 13 – 18. You will help girls develop their leadership abilities; define and achieve their personal goals; explore and acquire career and college skills; and more. You will also participate in all the program activities alongside the girls. This program meets 2-3 times per month in the greater Seattle area.
Our Mentorship Model:
Your primary role as a mentor is to be present and authentic, listen well and be willing to jump right in. Our mentor group closely reflects the diversity of the girls. We welcome women of all backgrounds: cultural, religious, educational, economic and sexual orientation. No prior mentoring experience is required. We believe girls are the experts on their own lives and futures. Our mentors help them to define and achieve their goals.
What Mentors Do:
- Receive training in intergenerational youth work, cultural competency, life-coaching, creative facilitation and more
- Meet incredible women like yourself who are committed to building a better future for the next generation of girls
- Get to know and work with girls who will inspire you with their passion and verve
- Share your experience and wisdom, and learn from the wisdom of others
- Feel the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of young women
You will attend two full-day workshops, mentor trainings, and two overnight retreats.
In addition, we host occasional optional socials. See below for details of the schedule.
The Commitment: Please consider this carefully.
As a mentor, your consistent attendance is essential! Please check the dates of the program you are applying for to make sure you can attend most of the program. If you have questions about this, please contact us. If mentoring is too large a commitment at this time, consider becoming a Y-WE volunteer. Our many short-term volunteer opportunities also provide meaningful experiences working with the Y-WE community of girls and women.
