Young Women Empowered

Mentor Information and Schedules

THANK YOU for your interest in mentoring!

We are currently not accepting applications. Please check back soon for our mentor applications for the 2019-2020 program year.

Do you believe that young women have a major role to play in determining the future of our communities and the world? Y-WE gives you the chance to join a high-spirited, intergenerational and multicultural community of women ages 13 and up who are dedicated to building a positive future for our communities and the world.

The Opportunity:

You will help girls develop their leadership abilities; define and achieve their personal goals; explore and acquire career and college skills; and more.

  • Receive training in intergenerational youth work, cultural competency, life-coaching, creative facilitation and more
  • Share your experience and wisdom, and learn from the wisdom of others
  • Feel the satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of young women

You will also participate in all the program activities alongside the girls. This program meets 2-3 times per month in the greater Seattle area.

Our Mentorship Model:

Y-WE primarily uses a group mentorship model that allows women and girls alike to get to know a wide range of positive role models that can offer personal and professional support.  Some of our girls and mentors will also be paired in one-to-one match-ups based on desire and needs.

Your primary role as a mentor is to be present and authentic, listen well and be willing to jump right in. We welcome women of all backgrounds: cultural, religious, educational, economic and sexual orientation.  We seek to have mentors who closely reflect the diversity of our youth.

The Commitment: Please consider this carefully.

As a mentor, your consistent attendance is essential!  Please check the dates to make sure you can attend most of the program.  If you have questions about this, please contact us.  If mentoring is too large a commitment at this time, consider becoming a Y-WE volunteer.  Our many short-term volunteer opportunities also provide meaningful experiences working with the Y-WE.
