Chandrika Frances of the Oshun Swim School will curate this five-day exploration of Blackness and water. On the first day, participants will be on land at Meredith Mathews YMCA for an interactive workshop: We Come From Mermaids, African Diaspora & Water. This workshop is a deep dive into some of the rich and fascinating history of Black people and swimming. Then we’ll transition to the pool to gain some skills and have some fun. All skill levels, including true beginners, are welcome. The program culminates with a pool party.
This camp is open to youth ages 13-19 who are Black identifying cis and trans girls and non-binary youth.
