Growing up as the oldest of four siblings, immersing themself in community-based educational experiences, and planning parties with their mom sparked an early interest in caring for others, creative education, and coordination. Her work centers on intersectional social justice, community outreach, liberation movement building, and identity-affirming empowerment—while also focusing on leadership development, social-emotional learning, and fostering supportive, collaborative networks. As a Virgo, Makayla is all about creating processes that bring joy to every project, making sure each one aligns with a vision of a world where people can embrace their autonomy and where intergenerational networks of care and reciprocal education can thrive. Makayla holds a degree in Public Health-Global Health and Human Rights from the University of Washington and has hands-on experience in the non-profit sector, higher education, and community organizing and advocacy.
Makayla finds joy and energy in live music events, the gifts of the earth and ocean, tending to houseplants, arts and crafts, joking around with their younger siblings, cooking plant-based meals with friends and family, and soaking up the sun.
